Hamburg: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here  from Israel to attend this year's G20 Summit on July 7-8. On Friday, Modi will attend the leaders' retreat where heads of state and government of the G20 countries will interact with each other informally. On the sidelines of the Summit, he will attend a meeting of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) leaders. A series of bilateral meetings between Modi and the leaders of Argentina, Canada, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Britain and Vietnam have also been lined up in Hamburg.

[The Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation, ruled by Shiv Sena, has passed a proposal to exempt houses in the city with a carpet area up to 500 sq ft from property tax. If the government approves the proposal, it will benefit over 14 lakh households in the metropolis.] Shiv Sena’s property tax waiver sop to cost BMC Rs 500 crore loss. In a bid to fulfill its poll promise, the Shiv Sena passed its proposal to offer complete waiver on property tax to houses up to 500 sq ft in the city. It has also decided to give a 60 per cent concession in property tax to houses from 500 sq ft to 700 sq ft. The proposal for the waiver was passed in the civic general body meeting on July 6, 2017. In its manifesto for BMC polls, which were held earlier this year, Shiv Sena had promised that it would not charge property tax to houses up to 500 sq ft and the discount will also be offered to houses from 500 sq ft to 700 sq ft. The demand for the waiver was made for a period of 2015-16 to 2020

On the sidelines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel, Indian and Israeli companies entered into agreements to bid jointly for defence contracts for the Indian military and locally build the systems under “Make in India”. Bharat Forge and Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) have signed an MoU to expand the joint venture that the companies are establishing as part of a February 2017 agreement meant to develop, build, market and manufacture selected air defence systems and light weight special purpose munitions. “The new MoU covers the establishment of a maintenance centre for selected advanced air defence systems in Hyderabad in Telangana in India,” Bharat Forge said. Dynamatic Technologies, IAI and Elcom signed a strategic teaming agreement for industrial cooperation and local production of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in India.
