๐Ÿ’ฅ CHABAHAR: STRATEGIC PORT FOR INDIA IN HOT WATER AMID IRAN-ISRAEL WAR

The Chabahar Port in Iran has become a key element of India's foreign policy and economy, so why is this project so important to India? ๐Ÿ‘‡

International North-South Trade Corridor

▪️India is investing in Chabahar to create an international transport corridor through Iran to Russia and Europe.

▪️This will reduce the freight route by 40% compared to the traditional path through the Suez Canal.

Access to the resources of Afghanistan and Central Asia

▪️Through Chabahar, India can expand cooperation with key countries in the region, bypassing Pakistan:

— Turkmenistan – large natural gas reserves (4th in the world), an alternative to Russian and Middle Eastern supplies.

— Kazakhstan – oil, uranium (important for India's nuclear energy), and grain.

— Uzbekistan – gold, cotton, rare earth metals.

— Afghanistan – lithium, copper, iron ore (estimated value – $1-3 trillion).

Counterbalance to Chinese influence

▪️China is actively promoting the "Belt and Road Initiative", but India is strengthening its position in the region through Chabahar.

▪️Just 170 km from Chabahar is the Pakistani port of Gwadar, developed by China under the CPEC project.

Investments

▪️India has invested $500M in the development of the port, including terminal and infrastructure construction.

In the future, an additional $2B is planned for modernisation and expansion of the port.
