Hon. Minister of State for Railways,
Union of India,
Rail Bhavan,
New Delhi 110001.

Dear Sir,

Sub: Renaming Mumbai Central Station as Nana Shankar Sheth Station.

I am a BJP activist from Mumbai since past 30 years and have been an office bearer. I run an NGO Alert Citizens Forum of India, which is involved in civic activism and dedicated to improving city conditions to making life bearable for the citizens.

In 2017, our Alert Citizens Forum of India had written to the then Railway Minister and requested that the Mumbai Central railway station should be renamed after Jagannath Nana Shankar Seth for his glorious contribution to the Mumbai City and the growth of railways in its pioneering years.

Shiv Sena leader and MP from South Mumbai, Shri Arvind Sawant had supported our demand in Lok Sabha.

Jagannath Nana Shankar Sheth is known as the builder of modern Mumbai and had made a major contribution towards the development of Mumbai, especially the starting of local train service between Mumbai and Thane.

He was one of the founders of the School Society and the Native School of Bombay. He had contributed funds when Students’ Literary and Scientific Society first opened their girls’ schools, despite facing stiff opposition from few members of the Hindu community.

Subsequently in March, 2020, the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government had approved the proposal to rename Bombay Central station to "Nana Shankarsheth Mumbai Central Railway Station".

On December 14, 2021 the Central Government informed Loksabha that the proposal along with the recommendation of Maharashtra government for renaming of Bombay Central Railway Terminus as Nana Shankar Sheth Terminus was received in October 2020 and that a decision in this regard would be taken after due consideration of recommendation of various agencies and other factors.

A lot of time has elapsed since our initial demand even when the then Railway Minister Shri Suresh Prabhu had shown positive inclination for the same.

We request you to please follow up and expedite the matter and oblige.

Regards,

For Alert Citizens Forum of India,

Dayanand Nene
President

Shri Raosaheb Danve ji,
