The case of Hotel Utsav over charging for water

The incident:

Hotel Utsav near Viviana Mall, Thane selling packaged water @ RS. 60/- + GST.Clear violation of MRP.
Section 36 of Legal Metrology Act clearly says anyone caught selling, distributing or delivering any pre-packaged commodity that does not conform to the declarations on the package shall be punished with fine up to Rs 25,000 for the first offence. It can increase to Rs 50,000 for second offence and subsequent offences can attract a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or imprisonment for one year or both.

Though the law came into effect in 2009, there is little awareness about the provisions of this law to protect consumers from charging more than MRP or difference between the exact content of a packaged commodity and what is mentioned on the wrapper.
Sent message to Ram Vilas Paswan, Minister and going to lodge complaint tomorrow.

The effect:
Good news:
After I posted this news, today afternoon I received a call from one of the owners of this restaurant.
He informed me that the restaurant management has decided and implemented the decision of charging only MRP for packaged water and soft drinks.
He explained the practical problems which restaurants face while deciding on the pricing of such products.
I fully understand and sympathize with them.
Anyway, it is indeed very appreciable for them to inform about the decision.
Wish them all the best in this new venture.
