The Hon. Prime Minister,
Govt.of India,
New Delhi.

Sub: Request to make Swatantraveer  Savarkar's ode' to the Goddess of Freedom - the song "Jayostute" our National song.

Respected Prime Minister,

February 26, 2017, was the 51st death anniversary of Shri Vinayak Damodar - Swatantraveer - Savarkar.

Swatantraveer Savarkar has remained the most unsung hero of our freedom struggle.
Successive Congress govt.'s have either relegated him to the dustbins of history or spread wrong information about him. They had gone to the extent of branding him as a traitor of the cause of independence.

It was in 2003 that the then NDA government had taken the first step towards installing Savarkar’s portrait in the Central Hall that displays gilt-edged portraits of every eminent leader associated with the Independence struggle.

With the change of government at the centre in 2014, this spreading of false information about Veer Savarkar stopped when you mentioned and eulogized him during your various speeches in Parliament.

Swatantraveer Savarkar is an icon of our country's freedom struggle. His historic escape from the ship carrying him as a prisoner - his subsequent daring to swim across the ocean before he was rearrested, is an example of his commitment for freeing the nation from British occupation.

Veer Savarkar wrote more than 10,000 pages in the Marathi language. His literary works in Marathi include "Kamala", "Mazi Janmathep" (My Life Sentence), and most famously 1857 - The First War of Independence, in which Savarkar popularised the term "First War of Independence" for what the British referred to as the "Sepoy Mutiny".

His iconic song " Jayostute" is an ode' to the Goddess of Freedom and an inspiration to all the citizens of the country. It depicts the importance of freedom and states that without you life is akin to death.

Those words - तुज साठी मरण ते जनन, तुज विन जनन ते मरण, तुज सकल चराचर शरण - are immortal and inspiring..

It is our request that you and your govt honour this great Freedom fighter Shri Vinayak Damodar Savarkar by recognizing his song 'Jayostute' as our National song with the same status as Vande Mataram.

We hope that you will accede to the Nationalist sentiment and give Savarkar his due in Indian history.

Regards,
