Letter to Prime Minister Modi ji

*(Text of the letter written by me to PM Modi ji)*

August 22nd 2021.

Respected Shri Modi ji,

Namaskar !

This is my second letter to you in 15 days.

The reason for writing is that we are alarmed by the drastic fall in the Prime Minister's & Govt's ratings (from 66 one year ago to 38, 6 months back and to 24 now, as the Best suited to become the PM) in ‘Mood of the Nation Survey Aug 2021’ conducted by India Today.

Many in BJP have started finding faults/shortcomings in the survey findings.

However, there is nothing to suggest that the survey was conducted with a specific bias.

It was one more 6-monthly survey like many others over previous decade by India Today.

Whatever biases/shortcomings the earlier surveys had, the same can be presumed to be there this time as well.

It is therefore better to accept the findings, get to the reasons for this drop and make timely course correction.

The Survey gives BJP and NDA 269 and 298 seats if elections were held today.

While these should still enable you to form stable Govt, the elections are still 3 years away. If the present trend continues, neither BJP nor even NDA may be in majority in 2024.

In any case, I think it is better to dive deep into the reasons leading to the fall in perceptions and carry out necessary course correction before long. After all, voter is the only God in a democracy. Whatever he perceives is the Truth.

As your die hard well wisher and a senior party activist, I am taking the liberty of penning a few lines of advice:

1) The Survey finds that people are concerned most about management of economy, mainly inflation and unemployment.

While certain short-term disruptions have led to higher inflation in some categories, there is no long-term trend for the worse.

Petrol prices above Rs 100 have made headlines for several weeks now. *You may like to consider sacrificing some revenue collection to keep petrol price under Rs. 100, the psychological and emotional barrier*.

No one should feel that the Govt is uncaring and disrespectful to their emotions.

2) Unemployment leads to not only economic underperformance but also to empty minds that tend to become the devil’s workshop.

All steps to generate employment must be effectively implemented to generate new jobs. Sectors such as readymade garments, electronics, construction which have huge potential. Plans for infrastructure development including roads must be implemented speedily.

3) Senior corrupt politicians and bureaucrats must be brought to book quickly. Admittedly, no one has been able to make serious allegations against you or any of your cabinet colleagues of corruption.

However, this has not percolated downwards. In the last 7 years, common man has not felt any impact of your famous promise - *ना खाऊंगा - ना खाने दुन्गा*.

The lower rungs of politicians and bureaucrats - down to the traffic constable continue to harass public for personal gains.

4) We are aware that the Govt is working hard to vaccinate all eligible Indians as fast as possible. Despite doubts lingering in some minds about efficacy of vaccines etc., vaccination is the single most preventive remedy as well as for employment generation.

5) Last but not the least, we must not lower our guard in our fight against Corona. Nation after nation including Israel, Australia have had to resort to clampdowns in response to rising illnesses which can be clearly traced to excessive relaxation.

Considering these developments, these ‘Jan Aashirvad’ rallies must be dropped. Several of these rallies with corona-inappropriate behaviour have received widespread negative publicity.

Common people look to leadership not only to frame rules but observe the rules in their personal behaviour.

Respected Modi ji, as your supporter and well-wishers, we would like to see BJP and NDA return to power in 2024 also. However, we would like you to succeed because of positive factors and not due to TINA.

With Best Regards,

Dayanand Nene

BJP Mumbai.
