PM Narendra Modi speaks on National Education Policy'

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, i.e. August 7, 2020, delivered the inaugural address at the ‘Conclave on Transformational Reforms in Higher Education' under National Education Policy’. 

Since the announcement of the New Education Policy (NEP), this is the first time that the Prime Minister spoke at length about the new policy. 

The conclave was organised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the University Grants Commission (UGC). 

The conclave aims to cover significant aspects of education proposed under the National Education Policy, 2020 like Holistic, Multidisciplinary and futuristic education, Quality Research, and Equitable use of technology for better reach in Education.

August 7, 11: 40 am: PM Modi concluded his speech by thanking everyone who has worked tirelessly for the new education policy and invited everyone to contribute in shaping the future of 21st century through this policy.


August 7, 11: 38 am: With changing time, a new global system has risen. Thus, it was essential for India to change its education system accordingly. Creating a 5+3+3+4 curriculum, and replacing the 10+2 structure was a step in this direction, says PM


August 7, 11: 35 am: NEP focusses on the upskilling of teacher and teacher-training. We have kept in mind the dignity of teachers. When a teacher learns, a nation leads, the PM said.


August 7, 11:34 am: Our government has started giving autonomous status to various institutions. We will give autonomy to many more institutions in the future, the PM said.


August 7, 11: 32 am: NEP is not just a circular, we need to make up our mind and with strong determination, we can implement it successfully to make the future of this country brighter, says PM Modi. He also urged everyone to conduct webinars and hold discussions in order to create road map for implementation of NEP 2020.


August 7, 11: 30 am: New education policy will help curb the gap between education and research. It focuses on providing quality education to our youth to build a better nation. Emphasis on coding, the concept of virtual labs will take education in India way forward, says PM Modi


August 7, 11: 28 am: India has the capacity to provide talent and technology to the world. Technology has given us the medium to reach even to the last person of the country. Technology will help in better content and course, PM Modi said.


August 7, 11: 26 am: Multidisciplinary course Multiple entries and exit options will help students to study what they actually want to study and how much to study. Students can leave the course whenever they want, PM Modi said. We are moving from thinking that a person is not glued to one profession for the entire lifetime and hence s/he needs to skill, re-skill and upskill. These issues are part of NEP, says PM Modi.


August 7, 11: 24 am: At present, the education system focuses on ‘What to think’ but this NEP focusses on ‘How to think’. Today, every information is available on the internet. But students need to know what they have to consume, PM Modi said.


August 7, 11: 22 am: W e have to make our students a global citizen but they should be connected with their roots too.NEP is focussing on this aspect. The policy also focusses on the holistic approach that was needed to improve education in India, PM Modi said


August 7, 11: 20 am: For the last many years there were no major changes in education policy. This new policy will prepare every student to be future-ready and contribute to the nation-building, PM Modi said.


August 7, 11: 18 am: National Education Policy was approved after extensive discussions over 3-4 years and deliberation over lakhs of suggestions, PM Narendra Modi said


August 7, 11: 16 am: The mapping of interest, ability, and demand was needed. We need to develop critical thinking and innovative thinking abilities in our youths. It will be possible if we have purpose, philosophy, and passion of education, says PM Narendra Modi. 


August 7, 11: 15 am: The NEP 2020 is the foundation of the New India, the India of 21st century. It will provide the youth of this nation, the education, and the skillset they require. The NEP focusses on the areas to ensure India is a superpower and is at the new heights of development. The NEP also aims at providing the people of India with new and best opportunities, says Modi.


August 7, 11:10 am: NEP has given rise to a healthy debate. It is palpable that questions will arise on how this huge plan will be implemented. We all will together do this implementation. Each one of you is directly involved in the implementation of the NEP. In terms of political will, I am totally committed and with you, says Modi.
