The Maharashtra Chess board:
The Maharashtra Chess board:
I think that the BJP is playing into the hands of the Mahavikas Aghadi.
They have set the rules of the game.
Even for a seasoned BJP Karyakarta like me, it is beyond my comprehension to put in perspective, 4 things that the party is doing:
1) The direction less hullalaboo done over the Palghar lynching. Strongly protesting against the brutal and savage murder of two unarmed Hindu saints was required and understandable.
But, according to me, BJP lost the plot and the incident lost its seriousness when they sought to find reasons which were not apparently there - Muslim angle or Christian Missionaries?
In this the grave issues of dereliction of police duty and how so many people could defy the lockdown - fell by the wayside.
Uddhav Thackeray knew exactly how the BJP would react and the party obliged him and the sting in the case was gone.
2) The Arnab episode:
I am totally at loss to understand why BJP is fighting Arnab's battle. Why is the party irked so much if Mumbai Police interrogated him for 11 hours?
Arnab is a shrewd businessman. He knows when to play what card.
He started by picking the cause of the two hindu saints and making a big noise (literally) and tried to play the Hindu victim card on his program. Everyone thought that he will follow it up and expose something big but on Day 2, he went after Sonia Gandhi and "Vadra Congress", again raising his pitch. After that the attack on his car and suddenly it has now become a personal battle for him.
Now I don't understand where exactly the BJP fits in all this.
3) The case of giving a travel pass to the DHFL Wadhawan's family. After making a big noise on Day 1, BJP seemed clueless as to how to respond when the MVA spread the rumour that the official who gave them the travel pass, was a blue eyed boy of ex CM Devendra Fadnavis.
Apparently, after this rumor, the stridency in the BJP voices was not there.
Again, Uddhav Thackeray predicted the BJP reaction and the party fell in the trap.
4) The last issue is of nomination of Uddhav Thackeray as MLC from the Governor's quota.
It is obvious that Uddhav has been cornered here. He could/should have played safe and got himself elected in the last round of MLC polls. But who had fathomed for Covid 19?
I feel by opposing him on this issue, at this stage, in this crucial atmosphere, the BJP is making a mistake.
Even if the Governor obliges them and denies Uddhav the nomination, the last man standing will be Uddhav Thackeray.
The public sympathy would be firmly with him and BJP would have lost face.
It will be better and graceful if the Governor nominates him to the legislative council.
