Saket Parisar ALM letter to all Saketians

February 5, 2011
Dear Saketians,
Sub: Background Notes for today’s ALM meeting.
Firstly, congratulations to all of you for making the inauguration program a grand success.
The Municipal Commissioner too loved the gathering and when I had gone to him to give the ‘Thanksgiving letter’, he mentioned that the quality of the function was very high and that he would like to come again to Saket.
1. Friends, coming to today’s agenda, the first issue which all Saketians face is of DOG MENACE.
This problem is not new but sadly due to the complex laws in the country, no solution can be found to solve the problem.
So I feel that as an ALM, and we may have quite a few Dog Lovers in our team, we need to start an awareness campaign as regards (a) not to feed dogs in common public areas. If anyone wants to feed Dogs- he or she may do so outside the gates of the complex – preferably at least 100 meters away from society premises.
I request you all to locate such spots and then popularize them amongst all Saketians so that after 2 – 3 times the dogs also form that habit of going to those spots for food.
If you find anyone feeding dogs in common public areas, please muster the courage and counsel him there and then. Don’t fear that it will spoil relations or give you a bad name- you are doing your civic duty and are right. Don’t bother about what the other person will feel – he is doing a wrong act.
Periodically, we can approach TMC and get the dogs sterilized. If one finds that some dogs are getting a bit aggressive – we can notify the TMC about such dogs and have them removed from the complex.
2. The second most common issue faced by all Saketians today is dirty building premises.
This happens primarily due to people keeping waste garbage outside their door – which leads to dogs or rats coming up and then littering the area and making it dirty. Other reasons are children littering the areas with Peppy , Chocolates sachets etc and people throwing Gutkha sachets.

As an ALM member, it is the responsibility of everyone to see that such incidents are stopped by us. We will have to be pro-active and take lead in counseling people not to keep garbage bins outside in stair cases. We will have to teach children not to litter and behave responsibly. We will have to warn our maid servants, courier boys, vendor boys not to litter Gutkha sachets and not to spit.
3. The third reason for building interiors having a shabby look is that they are not washed regularly.
Here too, as a responsible member of Saket, we have a role to play.
If you observe that the sweeping staff is not cleaning the building premises, first go and lodge a complaint with your BUILDING REPRESENTATIVE. Don’t rush to the Society Office or the Secretary.
The concept of having building wise representation was introduced to reduce to burden on Society office and have a system whereby the building representative take care of local issues.
Please don’t crib that the representative is not active and not responding. We all have elected them and they have to listen to us. They have willfully taken up this responsibility. They are Public Servants.
So go with your complaint to him/her but go in a delegation of 3-4 from the building. If he does not listen or act remind him once.
Still if he does not do anything for whatever reasons, prepare his RESIGNATION LETTER, and again go in a delegation and take his signature and submit it to the Society Office.
We don’t want representative to warm chairs. They have taken responsibility – they should work, or we should make them work for us or they should quit.
It is that plain and simple.
So when you come for the meeting, mull over these notes and let us make a new beginning…
Best Regards,
Dayanand Nene
